Bev Fine takes you through the eight interactive features that support each movie and reinforce the lessons through practice in all four language skills. She’ll also take a look at teacher support material like lesson plans and activities that build differentiated and higher order thinking skills.

I don’t have any ESL students this year, however, I teach READ 180 at my school, which is a reading program for students who read at least two grade levels below the grade they are in. For example, if a 10th grader reads on an 8th grade level, he or she could be eligible for my READ 180 class. Because the BrainPOP ESL curriculum focuses on language development, it is an excellent tool for my below-grade-level readers. I like that there are a variety of ways to the BrainPOP ESL program (quizzes, games, movies, etc.). The BrainPOP program is a great support to the READ 180 program. Thank you so much for this information!

I will definitely be using the site with my students. The interactive games and lessons are great. It would surely work for both auditory and visual learners.

Utilizing flash cards and interactive games for better learning is a very interesting thing to try more in my classes.

My take-aways from today’s webinar:
1) The importance of introducing a manageable amount of new vocabulary words at a time.
2) Introuducing Level One words before ELL’s will be comfortable enough to master content vocabulary.
3) Using flash cards and interactive games to reinforce vocabulary.
4) Moving away from traditional vocabulary teaching to higher order thinking by making connections. For example, students can use the sentence starter “_______ and ________ are related because…”
