mobywebinar

Wednesday, June 13 3:00PM ET:

Digital storytelling engages students by empowering them to write, produce and share their personal stories. The process also addresses crucial “21st century skills,” affirms student identity, and helps build social and emotional competencies. Join BrainPOP Educators Senior Manager Andrew Gardner for a deep look at the theories and processes of digital storytelling, as well as tools and strategies for bringing the practice into your classroom. This session was originally presented at the Mobile2012conference in April 2012.

I can’t wait to start using digital storytelling in my classroom this year! Enabling students to use different modalities to tell their stories is a great way to keep them engaged and learn to be creative with their storytelling.

This webinar was so informative! Digital storytelling can really help students to improve their reading and writing. It provides students so many different ways to express themselves: video, audio, writing, etc. Such a great tool for the school year!

I’m really excited to incorporate digital storytelling into my classroom. This webinar explains the benefits of digital storytelling, shows you the process for engaging students in digital storytelling, and provides many helpful examples and resources. I like the idea that this is a “social product” that students can share with people beyond the classroom and even the school setting!

I really enjoyed this webinar. I liked the 100 beats per minute song examples for the CPR classes. I also would like to show the lamp commercial to my class as an example of anthropomorphism.

This was an awesome webinar that had a lot of great information. Technology is vastly improving and is a great tool to use in the classroom. I really thought the ways of story-telling were great and are important to understand because students learn in all different ways. Another interesting point that I really liked was the idea about using commercials. I never really thought about using commercials as telling your point of view. Thanks for the wonderful information, and great job.

@Earl, I’m so glad that your first experience was “great” That Ikea ad really gets to the core of our humanity and is a safe entry point for students to talk about media conventions and manipulation! Hope to see you at BrainPOP educators again soon.

I am a newbie. My first experience was great. I found t he webinar easy to use even though I was a bit nervous as to whether i was on or not. It worked out fine. I truly liked the IKEA AD. Feeling sorry for the lamp.
    Sincerely,

The webinar showed me that digital storytelling has more aspects to it than simply the visual…I really enjoyed the section when the audio about CPR was streamed, using various sound effects, especially the music. Building background and activating prior knowledge is very important to me as a teacher, and the students will be more successful if they can relate to the concept. I plan to use the things I learned to integrate digital storytelling into our writing and technology blocks next year. Thanks again!

Thank you for the presentation. I plan to use digital story telling with my students to have them demonstrate understanding of a topic by telling a story to teach the topic to another student.

Your webinar was very insightful. The presentation and use of multiple modalities such as writing, video and music where creative. I’ve been looking at utilizing Sam Animation,by first developing a storyboard, then having my students create the art which will illustrate their storyboard and bring it to life utilizing Sam Animation, voice over and music.
This is a new and very creative approach to teaching will help students be able to completely understand concepts of the academic demands placed on them.

This was such a great webinar! Full of useful information. I am excited to teach storytelling using movies and commercials as examples. I think students will really respond to it in that way and maybe not hold such a dislike or fear towards writing.

I liked the idea of using commercials to show point of view. We usually only use commercials when we talk about persuasive writing or advertising. I think this will work well.

I loved getting two different perspectives on how to do the story-telling: the sound only and the visual combined with the audio. I think using both is important. I know a lot of my students are very visual learners, so I think focusing on audio will push them to imagine things in different ways.
