Participate in Games Research Survey for a Chance to Win!

We realize there are infinite ways that students and teachers use educational games. We hear anecdotes about how games are effective educational tools from various stakeholders,  and we’re firm believers that the engaging nature of a well designed educational game can have major impact on student achievement. However, less is known about how teachers are using games specifically within the context of formative assessment.

Therefore, New York University, University of Michigan, and BrainPOP are coming together to study teacher approaches to formative assessment, and how computer games support those practices. This project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, focuses on “the convergence of two important trends in education: (1) the rapidly rising popularity of educational video games as a means to increase student engagement and learning, and (2) a growing focus on the use of formative assessment information to shape instruction that meets all learners’ needs”.  The details of the research project can be found on NYU’s CREATE website.

The first step in the study is collecting data from teachers, and we need your help!  If you’re a teacher, please particpate in the A-Games survey.  Your response will will help us learn more about K-12 teachers’ assessment practices, the assessment challenges faced in the classroom, and the ways that educational computer games could make classroom assessment easier and more effective. In exchange for participating in the 15-minute survey, you’ll be entered to win one of eight $50 Amazon gift certificates. The survey closes on December 16th, so respond now!

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of the game for learning field. Thanks in advance for participating, and keep your eyes on BrainPOP Educators for updates about this exciting research project!
