Computer Science Education Week, the Hour of Code and BrainPOP

WHATS-NEW-3D-PRINTING

December 9-14th is the official Computer Science Education Week featuring the Hour of Code, “a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify ‘code’ and show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, a creator, an innovator.”  BrainPOP is excited to support the celebration of this important initiative.  With that in mind we have a number of events and resources to help!

First off,  join our “Getting Started with an Hour of Code” webinar with friends from Code.org on Wednesday December 4th at 3:30 PM ET.  We’ll talk about the campaign’s goals, offer some tutorials, and answer questions.  Then, on Wednesday December 11th, during Computer Science Education Week proper, we’re hosting another webinar with our partner, Tynker, creators of a simple and well-supported coding language.  You’ll be amazed to learn about how programming can be a delightful approach to bringing project based learning into your classroom.  Register now!  If you can’t attend live, you can always view the edited version on our archived webinar page.

We have new content on BrainPOP too!  The newest additions to our Computer Science unit include movies and interactive activities about programming and 3d printing.  All 19 movies in the Computer Science Unit are free all week long!

Click the GameUp button from any of the computer science movies and you’ll find interactive programming experiences from our friends at Tynker, Blockly, and Turtle Academy!  Between Blockly Maze, Turtle Academy,  Puppy Adventure, Sketch Racer, Lost in Space AND 15 Block Challenge, students with different interests can find a programming tutorial that appeals to them, all within the context of BrainPOP!

Finally, Have a makerspace or 3d printer at school?  Check BrainPOP Educators over the next few days – we will post a 3d model file that will enable you to print a miniature Moby!
