New Social Studies Game: Mission U.S. Cheyenne Odyssey

The Mission U.S. Cheyenne Odyssey game is now live on BrainPOP’s GameUp! Brought to you by WNET 13 New York Public Media, this free social studies game immerses students in U.S. history through interactive role-playing experiences. In the Cheyenne Odyssey mission of the game, students take on the role of Little Fox, a Northern Cheyenne boy whose life is changed by the encroachment of white settlers, railroads, and military expeditions in the 1860s and 1870s. As buffalo diminish and the U.S. expands westward, students will experience the Cheyenne’s persistence through conflict and national transformation.
Get a quick overview of the game by watching the 30 second promo video, or download the complete Mission 3 Educator Guide to explore the game in-depth and find related activities and resources. We recommend that you also play the game all the way through yourself prior to assigning it to students in order to make the sensitive content is appropriate for them. Completing some activities to build background knowledge can also be useful. Check out our full lesson plan for more ideas on how to integrate the game in your instruction.
