Educator Resources for Branches of Power

Branches of Power gives players the chance to experience and control all three branches of government—Judicial, Executive, and Legislative—at the same time! Rather than simply learning each in isolation, students take the role of all three branches and learn about their constant interactions. The goal of the game is to move public policy issues from a general idea to a fully-formed and tested law. Each issue tower symbolizes a potential law, and players work as each branch of government to build as many towers as possible.

Checks and Balances Lesson Plan: Branches of Power Game

In this lesson plan, which is adaptable for grades 6-12, students use BrainPOP resources to explore the legislative checks and balances system through interactive game play. Students will experience the process of how a bill becomes a law and understand the role of each branch of government as they take on each role virtually. This lesson plan is aligned to Common Core State Standards.  See more »
