Educator Resources for Immune System Defender

In Immune System Defender, players will see what happens when a breach in skin occurs. The objective is to get rid of bacteria that have gathered in the wound using a range of different immune cells. Players have two missions to complete. In the first, they must command a team of white blood cells called granulocytes to fight against bacteria invading the blood system through a finger wound. In the second mission, they must lead an army of macrophages and dendritic cells to fight the invading bacteria. Immune System Defender is based on the 1908 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, which was awarded to Ilya Mechnikov and Paul Ehrlich for key discoveries about the immune system, including the identification of cells that engulf bacteria and the discovery of how antibodies are formed in the body.
