Educator Resources for Multiplication Blocks
Multiplication Blocks is a fast-paced game designed to increase students' speed and accuracy under time pressure, thus improving their ability to do mental math.
Players must click on factors in a grid to destroy a falling multiple before it reaches the bottom of the screen. Extra points are awarded for finding longer factor chains and for clearing the factor grid in the least amount of time. The game rewards quick thinking as well as depth of expertise.
The game is designed as a fun and challenging drill to hone students' skills and commit newly-learned facts to long-term memory.
Multiplication Blocks features multiple speed and difficulty levels, four game modes, over 30 achievements, and eight unlockable special blocks. It is appropriate for students aged 8 and up.
In this lesson plan which is adaptable for grades 2-6, students use BrainPOP resources (including a free online interactive game) to practice multiplying numbers to create target amounts. Students will apply a variety of mental math strategies as they multiply during online game play, as well as in a hands-on multiplication game they create with a partner. See more »
