Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a serious condition, but that doesn’t mean that kids with CP can’t achieve most of the same things as kids without it! In this BrainPOP health movie, you’ll learn the symptoms of cerebral palsy--how they originate with brain lesions, and how they affect the muscles. You’ll learn the difference between the various types of cerebral palsy, and how physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy can make life easier for kids who have the disorder. Diseases, Injuries, and Conditions Lesson Plan: Raising Health Awareness

In this lesson plan which is adaptable for grades 3-12, students take part in a hands-on activity to explore the difference between diseases, injuries, and conditions. Students then select a disease, injury, or condition that they or someone they know has been affected by and research prevention and treatment methods. They will use BrainPOP resources as well as other internet sites to develop research skills as they find, compile, and summarize information about health and raising health awareness. Finally, students will design a way to raise community awareness about their selected disease, injury, or condition, and/or a related foundation or charity. Health, Fitness, and Nutrition Lesson Plan: Create a PSA to Fight Obesity

In this lesson plan, which is adaptable for grades 3-12, students use BrainPOP resources (along with print, web, and/or community resources) to explore one area of health, fitness, or nutrition. Students will learn about the contributing factors in the obesity epidemic and identify how lifestyle choices can contribute to or prevent weight and health problems. Students will then create a public service announcement (PSA) to teach others about the importance of making good choices and staying healthy. Science Fair Lesson Plan: Planning Projects with BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr.

In this lesson plan, which is adaptable for grades K-12, students use BrainPOP and/or BrainPOP Jr. resources to learn about planning projects when they create a science fair exhibit.  They will select their topic, explore the criteria for planning, and design a compelling and realistic experiment based on their topic.
