With so much buzz about BYOD (bring your own device) and student use of mobile devices in schools, we want to know your thoughts.

I think mobile devices are such an excellent resource. We can engage students, grab attention and make learning a fun experience. It is imperative to know the correct ways to use mobile devices. We have to stress to students that mobile devices should be used appropriately in the classroom setting.

Yeah, I agree. It would be great if they just used them like they were supposed to, but I guess that is what they pay us for. I like the thought of personal tech in the class. It saves the school a little money, allows to students to share and interact with each other, and makes my life and a little easier. I’m all for it, but strict guidelines will have to be in place.

I really don’t know where I stand on this topic. I think that cellphones in schools are both helpful and dangerous. Like you stated above, if they’re used appropriately they can most definitely be helpful, but will be ever have all of our students using them appropriately. On the other hand, will we ever be able to completely ban them in our schools?

We are piloting a BYOD pilot with one class in both the fourth & fifth grade in our school. I will say it does take some research & the support of your tech  department. We have developed user contracts and set guidelines like no cell phone capabilities. It’s been working well With letting them bri g their devices one day a week and complete activities we do in class with that technology.
