Educator Resources for Build-A-Tree
Build-A-Tree is a drag and drop interactive through which students are challenged to assemble a sugar maple tree across different seasons and from a varying set of structures. This tool is a great way to teach about the structures and substructures of a sugar maple tree (and trees in general). You can have students explore the interactive’s case studies in which a problem with the tree must be linked to where the structure has been affected.

Structures of a Sugar Maple Tree Lesson Plan: Build-A-Tree Interactive
Grades: 6-8, 9-12
In this lesson plan,, students use a free online science interactive game to learn about the structures and substructures of a sugar maple tree. Students work in teams to identify a tree’s parts and structures, predict how the tree will change throughout the seasons, and attempt case studies where a problem with the tree must be linked to the structure affected.
