Educator Resources for The Diabetic Dog Game

Play Game

In this game, students learn about diabetes by caring for a dog who has disease. Their mission is to avoid letting the dog reach levels of blood sugar that are too high or too low. The more successful they are, the more money they’ll earn for buying food and upgrading the dog’s food bowl or doghouse. We recommend using the game as an independent or partner activity during your instruction on blood sugar and healthy eating habits.

The Diabetic Dog Game Lesson Plan: How Diabetics Balance Needs for Healthy Living

Grades: 3-12

In this lesson plan, which is adaptable for grades 3-12, students use BrainPOP resources to identify the elements a diabetic needs to balance for healthy living. Students will identify the causes and effects of living with diabetes, and create an artistic expression of the “juggling act” a person with type 2 diabetes has to perform for healthy living.
