I’m not big into prescriptive grammar, but some is definitely needed for my 6,8, and 12 yo homeschoolers. In addition to BrainPop movies, I’m wondering about ways I could use the ESL area to teach them grammar.

    Hi Leslie,

There are some useful tools on the BrainPOP ESL home page that can help you search for lessons you want to go over with your kids: At a Glance, and also the Grammar Topics link at the bottom of the page both list our lessons according to the grammar topics. Then, besides the movie, there are eight interactive features, including fun games and activities, that reinforce the grammar, vocabulary, and content of each lesson. You could also look at the lesson plans that accompany every lesson for more activities and ideas. And be sure to check out the Extra Practice tab for an additional fun activity using the grammar. The lesson plans and Extra Practice are found in the Teaching Tools button on the left side of every lesson.

And if you have any questions, you can always contact me!

Last week I was at the Churchill school in NYC, and they are ordering BrianPOP ESL to use with their primary age students with learning differences. The direct teaching approach of BrainPOP ESL is attractive for teachers in many settings.

BrainPOP ESL has many new features including the ability to record your voice with the “hear it, say it” prompt. Also, the higher level lessons are now more content driven, which can both help teach grammar skills and subject driven content!
