Last week, we called on you, our dear BrainPOP Educators, to share your thoughts about Steve Jobs’ influence on your classroom. We received many responses via Facebook, Twitter and right here on the BrainPOP Educators blog. The diversity of answers was a testament to the impact of the man, the company and the products.  Many educators were excited about the advent of user friendly mobile technology. Jessica from Georgia remarked on the “motivation, creativity, teamwork and innovation” she observed when her students brought their own iOS for BYOT (bring your own technology) day at school.  She added “of course, we all had the BrainPOP app!”   Glad to hear it Jess! Renee from Illinois described the change in pedagogy that happened with the use of Apple devices, “my students are motivated to learn in ways THEY want to learn, not ways I want them to learn or the way I USED TO learn”  Marilyn, another teacher from the great state of Georgia, described the change in classroom life after receiving a grant for an iPod lab. “With the immediate feedback – students would ASK if they could redo (their work) – for a higher score!!!!” On the BrainPOP Educators blog,… Read the Rest»

It’s been an “app-solutely” great week here at BrainPOP! First, we launched a major update to our iOS Featured Movie app, enabling mobile access to all our movies and quizzes. You’d been asking for it, and we delivered! Now, we’re thrilled to report that users have given the app a five-star rating and a ton of awesome written reviews. If you haven’t yet left a comment in iTunes, we’d love it if you did! [Note, you’ll need to view the page IN iTunes in order to write the review.] iTunes has also featured us in several categories: · “New and Noteworthy” in Education, under iPad as well as iPhone · Number 3 among the free Edu iPad apps · “Curricula Support” under “Apps for Teachers” · “Just for Fun” in “Apps for Kids” And please leave us feedback or questions regarding the app. We’re working hard to support mobile learning in classrooms and on the go.

Goodbye Steve Jobs

Yesterday’s announcement of Steve Jobs’ death was a significant event in the history of computing and innovation.  Jobs has been a major player in the development of technology and its impact on our world for the past 30+ years.  From the original wooden Apple computer in 1977 to the thin, sleek, glass iPad 2 in 2011, Jobs helped personalize and demystify technology for the masses. At BrainPOP we want to acknowledge Jobs and Apple Inc’s attention to education.  Students and teachers the world over have used Apple’s hardware and software to express their ideas, explore their world and learn about themselves. Jobs and his colleagues at Apple knew it wasn’t about technology but about being human. The company put impeccable user experience at the core of their mission: “It’s in Apple’s DNA that technology alone is not enough: it’s technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the result that makes our heart sing.”
