This year’s conference is scheduled to run from Monday, November 12 through Friday, November 16, 2012 (Saturday, November 17th in some time zones). The entire conference will be held online using the Blackboard Collaborate platform. If you’ve ever attended a BrainPOP webinar, then you’ll be familiar with the format of each conference session. BrainPOP is supporting the conference strand dedicated to game based learning and game design. From Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) to Serious Games, the popularity and excitement about Game Based Learning is grounded in solid progressive educational philosophy. Studies upon studies have shown how game structures provide safe spaces for students to take risks, think strategically, and work hard. Online games are also a unique medium for communication, collaboration and teamwork. Have you used games to help your students better understand global issues? If so, there is a unique opportunity to submit a proposal to present at this year’s conference. We encourage you to submit and present, your session doesn’t have to be about BrainPOP’s GameUp, just about your effective use of… Read the Rest»

The third annual Global Education Conference is an online international education extravaganza, slated to take place November 12-17, 2012. It is designed to significantly increase opportunities for globally-connecting educators (primary, secondary and tertiary levels), students, and organizations. BrainPOP® is pleased to announce a new partnership with The Global Education Conference to develop a new gaming strand for the 2012 Event. In addition to general session strands for teachers and students on curriculum, policy, and leadership, the conference is now seeking proposals for the new strand’s game-based learning sessions. BrainPOP will be lending its expertise and support to the conference by curating the new gaming strand. Game designers, students, and aficionados alike are invited to read more about the conference and to submit a proposal for consideration by October 15, 2012. Game-based learning and game design are currently hot education topics, and the Global Education Conference co-chairs are thrilled to be working with BrainPOP to highlight game play within a global education context. Some examples of session titles might be: “Building Global Citizenship Skills Through Serious Game Play” or “Connecting Cultures and People Through MMORPGS”. We can’t wait to bring educators and game makers together during this truly unique event, and… Read the Rest»

Along with his passion for teaching, he brings a background in cognitive science and project-based learning. Even after 25 years of teaching in Asia, Michael still maintains a childlike wonder and curiosity. Today Michael joins us to share about his use of BrainPOP at the international setting. Ni hao. As an international school in Shanghai, our student body of 1200 (K-12) from 40 countries, uses BrainPOP almost daily around the school.   The topic pages allow students to replay content, hear a condensed message (as opposed to a teacher’s long explanation) and see a short video as opposed to overly verbose and lengthy lecture! The BrainPOP topics as well as the content are “Spot-on,” says Liam, a grade 3 student from Australia.  “The video clips help me focus.” Students love using BrainPOP for research purposes. For example, in our China unit we are currently exploring pressures and developments in China’s new economy.  The answers… Read the Rest»
