These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

December 30, 2010

Happy holidays! As we enter a new year, we want to take a moment to say thanks to all of you for making BrainPOP Educators the incredible community that it is. Without your generous contributions of tips, lesson plans, blog posts, and more, we couldn’t boast that we’ve got over 110,000 BrainPOP Educators with over 850 free resources. So thank you. Truly. A new year is a great opportunity to take some time for reflection. We would love to hear which resources you value the most on BrainPOP Educators, so we can continue to develop helpful content that will be meaningful to you. Happy Halloween!

October 28, 2010

Adorable, right? We were so thrilled when 10 year old Jason Martinez shared his Moby Halloween costume with us a few years ago, and have been lucky enough to receive even more photos of super creative BrainPOP character costumes. So… show us what you got! We’ll put together a slideshow of all the submissions, and send out BrainPOP hats to our top favorites! To get you inspired, check out our Halloween topics – we’ve got one for BrainPOP Jr. (K-3) as well! Email educators@brainpop.com with Halloween in the subject heading to share your photos. Happy Halloween!

President’s Day

February 11, 2010

BrainPOP’s got plenty of resources for your students to brush up on history. Presidents’ Day, celebrated on the third Monday in February, is almost upon us. Take a poll with your class to vote on which President BrainPOP should make a movie about next, and see who’s in the lead so far! Both BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr. have age-appropriate movies on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, whose birthdays fall in February, along with many other related topics and interactive features to extend learning before, during, and after watching the movies. Try using the Quizzes in a game show format, dividing the class into two teams for a little healthy competition! You can always have a rematch after reviewing the movies again. There’s also lots of fun packed into our FYIs and Belly Up comics. Happy Presiden’ts Day! How are you preparing your students for President’s Day? Please share ideas below!

Looking for Last Minute Thanksgiving Lessons?

November 22, 2009

One of my fondest memories of special projects was this Thanksgiving Traditions lesson that I did with my 3rd and 4th graders. Take a look! It’s easily adaptable for any age, and involves a menu of activities that invite students to write a toast, share their family holiday traditions, create a menu, and more. And if you haven’t already, explore our Spotlight on American Indians. We’re featuring a Trail of Tears lesson plan, and our Thanksgiving movie will be free through Sunday! It features 3 great Activity Pages (including short answers, a graphic organizer and vocabulary), and a fun, fact-filled FYI full of extension possibilities. For K-3 content, check out BrainPOP Jr.’s Thanksgiving movie. Enjoy, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
