Earth Awareness Contest Winners!

The educator who submits the best lesson plan highlighting how you use BrainPOP, along with IMAX’s educator resources, wins premium prizing – from tickets for their class to see the film and promo items, to a one-year subscription to BrainPOP (worth $1500)! They Got Game!

Huge congratulations to the 12 winners of the First Annual National STEM Video Game Challenge, chosen from among more than 500 entrants! BrainPOP is proud to have served as a founding outreach partner of the competition, which invited middle schoolers to harness their STEM skills and design original video games. Part of the White House “Educate to Innovate” campaign, the contest was headed by the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop and E-Line Media. Find out more about the winners and their entries. This year’s contest may be over, but you can still use video games to teach STEM skills. Check out our Video Game topic and related lesson plan! IMAX & BrainPOP Team Up: Enter Our “Wild” Contest

We’ve partnered with IMAX on a great initiative dedicated to raising awareness about conservation efforts and endangered species. The partnership means extraordinary online (and free!) resources for you from IMAX as well as two brand new BrainPOP movies: Primates and Elephants. Both debut as part of our Spotlight: Earth Awareness. On March 30th, just before the April 1 start of Earth Awareness Month, we’ll offer a special webinar entitled Using a Multimedia Approach to Teach Earth Awareness. In conjunction with this webinar and the partnership with IMAX, we invite you to submit a multimedia K-8 lesson plan related to earth awareness, conservation, or endangered species. Use BrainPOP and an array of other educator tools courtesy of IMAX: behind-the-scenes clips from the upcoming movie “Born to Be Wild 3D,” webisodes, downloadable educator activities, and more. Guest Blog Series: Mixing It Up With Apps and Shakespeare

Jayne Clare and Anne Rachel are two inspiring, experienced classroom teachers who’ve got their finger on the pulse of apps! We regularly refer to their website, teacherswithapps.com, a credible resource to help educators wade through the vast educational apps out there. We think what they are doing is amazing and are thrilled they’re sharing their expertise with us through a guest blog series! Check out their first BrainPOP Educators guest blog post, where they share how our BrainPOP Featured Movie App inspired them to delve into the world of educational apps. Every student, at some point, should become familiar with the legendary and dateless writings of Shakespeare. To introduce his work into your classroom, you can watch the William Shakespeare BrainPOP movie. I recommend pausing at the letter to Tim and Moby and asking your students to turn and talk or do a quick write to share what they already know about Shakespeare. This March Spotlight includes topics like Ada Lovelace, Amelia Earhart, Frida Kahlo, Judy Blume, Marie Curie, Oprah Winfrey, Sally Ride (new!), and much more, all on BrainPOP.
