BrainPOP Launches Free iPad App!

April 3, 2010

We’re proud to present the new free BrainPOP Featured Movie app for the iPad! We’re pretty excited about putting BrainPOP directly at kids’ fingertips. There’s something unique about touching the screen that draws kids (and grownup kids) into an immediate and personal learning experience. The BrainPOP Featured Movie app delivers fresh, animated movies every day, with content relevant to significant historical and current events such as Earth Awareness and Financial Literacy topics in April. After watching the Featured Movie, students can test their new knowledge with the accompanying interactive quiz.  We think the app is a whole lot of fun, with a beautiful design. Please take a moment to rate, review, and share the app! Don’t have an iPad? You can always embed BrainPOP’s free Featured Movie in your own blog or website with our Featured Movie player.

Sharing BrainPOP On Closed-Circuit TV

February 5, 2010

I love hearing innovative tips from teachers. This one is from Tiffany Michaud at Cannella Elementary in Tampa, FL. She uses BrainPOP during their closed circuit tv program broadcasted each morning. She might start the day with a pop-a-joke from BrainPOP Jr., show a timely movie that relates to the entire school (MLK, Earthquakes), or use the different features of BrainPOP that fit into the various segments of their school news show. When I showed her the FYI feature on BrainPOP, she came up with the idea to have the Cassie and Rita comic up on the tv screens while students were coming into their classrooms. Could lead into a great class discussion that you can return to throughout the day/week. Thanks for sharing these, Tiffany! Got some new ideas? Add ‘em on!

New Widget – Pop-a-Joke!

January 27, 2010

Become the funniest teacher ever! Add the BrainPOP Jr. Pop a Joke Player to your own blog or website to get hundreds of kid-friendly jokes. Some will make you laugh, and some will make you cry (in a good way), but all the jokes are linked to grade-appropriate, K-3 topics on BrainPOP Jr. that students can investigate further. Our newest widget gives you access to embed BrainPOP Jr.’s Pop-a-Joke feature into your class or school website, blog, or any social network you participate in.  Just follow the directions to embed the widget here. Great way to start or end your day!

Back in the Swing of Things

September 17, 2009

It’s been great to see all these creative ways teachers and administrators get the word out to their staff to ensure they don’t miss out on BrainPOP. Here are a few examples I found recently. Robert Miller created a dedicated page of his class website filled with information for his students, families, and peers with a great name: Your Daily Dose of BrainPOP! And Josh and Reagan, two students in the class, created POP Blog with information on how extra credit can be earned using BrainPOP! Mr. Coley embedded the Featured Movie of the Week on his class website. Seattle Homeschooling for the Beginner Examiner embedded our Moby widget! Teachers Tech Blog blogs about BrainPOP! Bryan from Taymans Tech Blog created his own BrainPOP Refresher for his middle school staff, and explained the details of their subscription so no one misses out. and the Tweets… don’t get me started! That will get its own blog post very soon, but just a few great ideas: Teachers who train their colleagues: @nikilnh: Just presented features of BrainPOP teachesr may not be aware of. http://tinyurl.com/cy9k6q @brainpop Teachers who share class updates: Sept 11 http://www.brainpop.com/socialstudies/ushistory/september11th/ Nice job @brainpop!
