BrainPOP at WISE – World Innovation Summit for Education

Posted by cemignano on

Earlier this month, BrainPOP had the unique opportunity to join an international conversation about creativity and learning at this year’s WISE Summit in Doha, Qatar. Dr. Kari Stubbs, BrainPOP’s VP of Learning & Innovation, delivered a spotlight speech entitled Serious Play: The Role of Games in Learning. In it, Kari used SnapThought and the GameUp titles Quandary (Learning Games Network) and Guts and Bolts (BrainPOP) as examples of formative assessment through games. Attendees were also treated to a special preview of the results from the soon-to-be-released study A-GAMES Project (Analyzing Games for Assessment in Math, ELA/Social Studies, and Science), conducted by the University of Michigan and New York University. The project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, explores the unique role of games and game features in supporting formative assessment within the learning process. Additional topics included the use of games to engage English language learners, a common core content area around the globe.
