Educator Resources for Lord of the Flies
This game is based on William Golding's novel, Lord of the Flies, an exciting book about a group of young boys isolated on a desert island. The game introduces analytical aspects of the book to challenge a reader's memory through play and is an excellent tool for review and assessment. Students will explore questions such as: Who are the different characters in the Lord of the Flies book? What is a symbol? How might one interpret the book? Through game play, Lord of the Flies presents one possible interpretation of Golding's work—though this interpretation is no more legitimate than any other. As Golding himself claimed, The right interpretation is the one that rises to the reader the first time he reads the book. This game was developed to honor the works of William Golding, who was awarded the 1983 Nobel Prize for literature.
