Last year, Dr. Kari Stubbs was recognized as one of Daily Edventures’ global heroes in education and they’ve recently caught up with her again for an update on BrainPOP’s work, her thoughts on the intersection of education and technology, and future trends. Daily Edventures is an education-centered blog that has a focus of identifying inspiring advocates for education, 365 days a year.  The site’s editor, Anthony Salcito, is Vice President of Education for Microsoft Corp.’s Worldwide Public Sector organization and works with education institutions around the world to facilitate optimal use for technology in learning environments. Thanks to all of you, our newly launched Featured Movie app for Windows 8 just reached a big milestone! The Windows 8 app – for devices like the Microsoft Surface – has now been downloaded more than 10,000 times. Remember, your BrainPOP username lets you log in directly from the app at no additional cost. A second milestone? The app earned front-and-center placement last week, when the Windows Store featured it in the Education category.

The Microsoft Partners in Learning 2012 US Forum is Microsoft’s premier educator recognition program open to all K-12 educators. The Forum seeks to find and showcase examples of innovation happening in classrooms and schools. It is easy to apply, and if accepted, Microsoft pays expenses for you to come to a unique 2-day professional learning experience that will include project exhibitions, professional development and the ability to collaborate with like-minded colleagues from around the country. Finalists from the US Forum will go on to represent the U.S. at the 2012 Global Forum in Athens, Greece. Let’s hear it for our very own Kari Stubbs, who was recognized as one of Daily Edventures’ global heroes in education!  Daily Edventures is an education-focused blog that has a central goal for 2012: to identify 365 inspiring advocates for education.  Kari was interviewed by the site’s editor, Anthony Salcito, who is also vice president of education for Microsoft Corp.’s Worldwide Public Sector organization.  In her interview, Kari reflects on her experiences as a classroom teacher and shares her expertise on game-based learning and its growing popularity in schools.  She explains the driving force behind our GameUp feature  while sharing the many resources we have to support it. It’s been a week of global celebration here at BrainPOP.  We were proud sponsors of the Global Education Conference, shared tales of  science education in Shanghai, and attended the Microsoft Partners in Learning Global Forum. Dr. Kari Stubbs, Vice President of 21st Century Learning at BrainPOP, shares her exciting experience. Salut! Hola! Ni Hao! Ciào! WOW! I’ve just returned from Microsoft’s Partners in Learning Global Forum held in Washington, D.C.  With 700 educators from 70 countries, it was a remarkable opportunity to meet education visionaries from every corner of the globe. The Microsoft Partners in Learning Forums are a series of country-level and regional events that lead to a singular global event that celebrates the achievements of innovative teachers and school leaders. This year’s winners were selected from more than 115 projects, narrowed from more than 200,000 applicants, who competed at national and regional events over the course of the year to qualify for the worldwide competition at the 2011 Partners in Learning Global Forum. BrainPOP, available in American English, British English, Español, Français, Chinese and ESL was the perfect complement to the important work of these innovative teams.
