    Accessibility Statement

BrainPOP builds features and products that engage, excite, and challenge every child in every way they learn. We strive to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and continue to make improvements and updates to our features across our products, BrainPOP®, BrainPOP Jr.®, BrainPOP ELL®, and BrainPOP Science™ in an ongoing effort to make sure our products are accessible as possible.

BrainPOP Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT)

BrainPOP's VPAT details our compliance with Revised 508 Standards and WCAG 2.1 AA.

You can download our latest VPAT here: BrainPOP VPAT 2023. If you have feedback on BrainPOP product accessibility, you may reach us at accessibility@brainpop.com.

    BrainPOP Accessibility Highlights

See below for examples of how BrainPOP and BrainPOP products are compliant with WCAG.

    Site Navigation

    • All navigation is clear and predictable.
    • Each page includes an option to skip to the main content, providing users with an easy way to bypass the main navigation and go directly to the content.
    • There is keyboard navigation on all pages and features so that content can be accessed without a mouse.

    Text

    • All descriptive images are accompanied by alternative text for screen readers
    • All text is written at an appropriate reading level
    • All site pages include an HTML language tag

    Video and Sound

    • All BrainPOP movies and comics include transcripts and captions that provide visual and audio alternatives to video and sound.
    • All site content is easily navigable for someone with low vision or color blindness through appropriate color contrast, functional browser zoom and does not use color to convey meaning.
    • BrainPOP Jr. includes the option to toggle on and off audio that speaks the button text.

    Mobile Learning Apps

The following BrainPOP mobile apps are fully accessible on Apple products:

    • BrainPOP® Featured Movie
    • BrainPOP Jr. ® Movie of the Week
    • BrainPOP ELL™

    Microsoft Immersive Reader (Read more)

Microsoft Immersive Reader (MIR) is an integration tool that helps improve the reading and accessibility for all learners inside BrainPOP’s movies and learning activities. MIR is featured inside BrainPOP, BrainPOP Jr, and BrainPOP Science and includes features such as

    • Line Focus: A built-in “reading ruler” lets students select how many lines of text they want to see at one time.
    • Text Personalization: Change text color, font, and background color; enlarge text (which shortens line length); and increase line, word, and letter spacing to reduce crowding.
    • Grammar Options: Dividing words into syllables supports students as they sound out new or challenging words. They can also highlight and label parts of speech.
    • Read Aloud: A text-to-speech option—which students can speed up or slow down—highlights words as they are read, helping students follow along at their own pace.
    • Picture Dictionary: Click a word to view a picture or hear its pronunciation. Combine Picture Dictionary with the Read Aloud option to aid reading and comprehension.
    • Translation: View translations to over 45 languages, and easily toggle between the translation and original text.

    Audio Descriptions

Audio descriptions are now available in BrainPOP (3-8) movies. Audio descriptions provide added narration to describe critical visual elements during a movie, including action, characters, scene changes, on-screen text, and other visual content.

    Screen Readers and Browsers

For screen reader and keyboard users, we recommend navigating BrainPOP, BrainPOP Jr., and BrainPOP ELL with:

    • Chrome (latest version) with VoiceOver
    • Firefox® (latest version) with NVDA
    • Safari® (latest version) with VoiceOver

We suggest browsing our sites with VoiceOver, with Quick Nav set to ON. We suggest using a computer instead of a mobile device for a more accessible experience.
