{"synopsis":"The big winner on Election Day gets to be President. But before the showdown in November, candidates fight for a place on the ballot, through a series of primaries and caucuses! These earlier elections pit candidates from the same political party against each other for the right to represent that party as its nominee for President. In each state, a party holds a primary or caucus (or both!), and the winner is awarded a certain number of delegates. Those are the people who cast the official votes for the nominee at the party's nominating convention! The contests start with the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary in January; continue through Super Tuesday (when a bunch of states hold primaries on the same day); and end with the national conventions in the summer. At that point, each party crowns its nominee! Then it's back on the campaign trail until the general election in November.
